Drive-By Truckers is on the road celebrating its 26th birthday. Boasting a mix of Southern pride, erudite lyrics, and a muscled, guitar-heavy attack, Drive-By Truckers became one of the most well-respected alternative country-rock acts of the 2000s.
Led by frontman Patterson Hood and guitarist and tunesmith Mike Cooley, and featuring a rotating cast of Georgia and Alabama natives, the band celebrates the South while refusing to paint over its spotty past. On the band’s latest release, Welcome 2 Club XIII, Drive-By Truckers pay homage to the Muscle Shoals honky-tonk where Patterson and Mike got their start: a concrete-floored dive lit like a disco, with the nightly promise of penny beer and truly dubious cover bands. Arriving as the band enters its 26th year, Welcome 2 Club XIII marks a sharp departure from the political commentary of past albums The Unraveling and The New OK (both released in 2020).
