James Devine from Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare in Ireland, is the World Record holder for the fastest feet in the world with an astonishing 38 taps in one second. A three time World Champion Irish dancer, former lead in Lord of the Dance, choreographer and teachers, Devine is renowned for his incredible fast feet. In 2007, Devine graced the stage of The New Victory Theatre with his production, TapEire. A dedicated strength and conditioning coach to Irish Dancers, Devine is now focused on producing.
David Geaney from a town called Dingle in the South West of Ireland, is a 24 year old dancer who regularly works in his family owned bar, The Dingle Pub, but his main passion is dance. After being told he was too young for football and watching his older sister Susie win a medal at a local dance competition, David decided he wanted a medal too – and began dancing! After dancing for nearly 20 years, not much has changed, but he does have five World Championship titles to his name and several TV appearances including the finals of Britain’s Got Talent under his belt!
He might be quick on his feet but the day Geaney was too slow to catch a bus home after filming for a BBC documentary, Devine offered to bring him home. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise and was the beginning of an artistic partnership that inspired both men to take Irish dance in a new and exciting direction, sparking the idea for their new show Velocity!
After releasing a video celebrating Irish passion in 2016, the men were shocked with the response. The video went viral and was shared on national news outlets and international sites. It encouraged them to make other videos which in turn went viral again and so sparked the idea to create a full scale show. In 2017, they decided to partake in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a huge platform for new shows. Despite several setbacks including an injury to James Devine, the show went on and received several fantastic reviews, even being dubbed ‘dance hour of the fringe’.
As a result of their fantastic efforts in Edinburgh, Velocity were contacted by The New Victory Theatre for the next big step in their journey. After a hugely successful run in New York in 2018, they are now looking forward to touring the US and more in the coming years.
